Fort Point Brewing grows with Crafted ERP for NetSuite
A love of beer and building businesses led brothers Tyler and Justin Catalana to found a small brewery in Northern California’s Mill Valley, but as it took off and they began to expand, the idea of scaling up manufacturing and going regional had them looking South. In 2014, they launched Fort Point Brewing in San Francisco, employing 200 people and rapidly becoming a regional favorite in California and beyond.
“We’re a manufacturing company but we’re also a hospitality company and a distribution company. NetSuite just had a more modern approach to ERP than anything else we evaluated.”
– Justin Catalana, Founder, Fort Point Brewing –
Family-Run Business Wins in Crowded Craft Beer Space
Brewing success in the heart of San FranciscoThe move to Fort Point in San Francisco, a focus on innovative design, the right brewing recipe and launching at a time when craft breweries were taking off and regional competitors were focused on international growth combined to propel Fort Point to double its growth in its early years and now expect 40% growth per year moving forward.
Forgoing distributors pays off
Fort Point also made a key decision to forgo traditional distributors and distribute itself. However, amidst its growth, Fort Point’s QuickBooks system could not meet its needs, limiting visibility into financials and creating difficulties managing inventory.
Ditching QuickBooks, SAP for Crafted ERP
Fort Point replaced QuickBooks with a customised SAP solution but was forced to install something else within a year due to integration and usability issues. After an extensive evaluation, it selected Doozy Solutions to implement Crafted ERP, a NetSuite solution customised for craft beverages.
Head east, young brewery
With Crafted ERP and NetSuite, Fort Point Brewing’s employees trust the system, and the company has improved financial reporting, production and inventory controls. It’s now looking to expand beyond its distribution and three taprooms outside the San Francisco Bay Area into Southern California and the greater U.S.
